Persian (Farsi) Legal Translation in Dubai

Taw-Theeq translates Iranian documents into Arabic and English through sworn legal translators accredited by the UAE Ministry of Justice, from our office in Deira where the Iranian community and its businesses are concentrated. In this language pair two details decide whether your paperwork is accepted: the date and the name.

The calendar problem most providers get wrong

Iranian documents are issued in the Solar Hijri calendar. It is a solar calendar like the Gregorian one, but its year begins at the spring equinox rather than on 1 January β€” and it is not the lunar Hijri calendar used elsewhere in the region. Converting a Solar Hijri date is therefore not a fixed subtraction, and a rushed conversion can shift a date of birth.

If your translated date of birth does not match your passport, the receiving officer sees a contradiction between two of your own documents. We convert each date carefully, state it clearly, and keep the original visible where the document text includes it.

Iranian documents we translate

Shenasnameh (civil identity booklet)
The core Iranian identity document. It carries later entries β€” marriage, children β€” that must be translated as recorded, not summarised away.
Marriage and divorce documents
Required for residency, family visa and personal status matters.
Academic certificates
Degrees and transcripts from Iranian universities.
Commercial documents
Company registration papers, contracts and trade correspondence.
Powers of attorney and affidavits
Executed in Iran for use before UAE authorities.
Property documents
Title deeds and property contracts where an official submission requires them.

Why our Deira location matters here

We work from Creek Tower in Riggat Al Buteen, Deira β€” an area where Iranian residents and Iranian-linked businesses are concentrated. That means we handle the same document patterns repeatedly and know what each authority expects from them, instead of treating every file as a first encounter.

Frequently asked questions

My Iranian document uses a different calendar β€” how do you handle the dates?

Iranian documents are issued in the Solar Hijri calendar, which is neither the Gregorian nor the lunar Hijri calendar. We convert each date precisely and state it in the translation, keeping the original where it forms part of the document text. This is not cosmetic: the Solar Hijri year does not start on 1 January, so a careless conversion shifts a date of birth by a day or more and puts your translation in conflict with your passport β€” which stops the transaction.

How do you decide the spelling of a Persian name?

A Persian name can be transliterated several defensible ways. We use the spelling exactly as it appears in your passport, because that is the document the receiving authority matches against, and we keep that spelling consistent across everything we translate for you afterwards.

What is a shenasnameh and why does it need special care?

It is the Iranian civil booklet in which a person’s details are recorded, with further entries added over time for marriage and children. It is not a one-line birth certificate. We translate its entries and pages as they stand, because the officer reading it looks at the entries, not the title.

Do Iranian documents need attestation before translation?

It depends on the receiving authority and the purpose. Tell us where the document is going and we will tell you whether MOJ-accredited translation alone is sufficient or whether an additional attestation step genuinely applies β€” before you pay for a step you may not need.

Is the translation accepted by UAE authorities?

Yes. It is produced by sworn legal translators accredited by the UAE Ministry of Justice, carries the translator stamp and declaration, and is accepted by the courts, government departments and banks.

Legal translation in other languages

Iranian residents and Iranian-owned businesses have been part of Dubai’s commercial fabric for generations, and the paperwork that reaches us reflects that: family and civil status records on one side, trade and shipping documents on the other. What both have in common is a source system that does not map neatly onto the UAE’s. Persian legal documents are dated in the Solar Hijri calendar, issued by institutions with no Emirati counterpart, and validated by seals rather than signatures — and each of those is a place where an inexpert translation fails.

Persian documents we translate most often

  • Shenasnameh (شناسنامه) — the Iranian identity booklet. It records births, marriages, divorces, children and death across several pages, and it is translated in full, not from the first page alone.
  • National card (کارت ملی) and passports.
  • Marriage and divorce deeds (سند ازدواج / سند طلاق) including the mahr terms, which are legally operative and are frequently the reason the document is being submitted.
  • Court judgments and filings — rulings, pleadings and enforcement papers.
  • Academic records (مدارک تحصیلی) — degrees, transcripts and school certificates for equivalency and admission.
  • Commercial documents — company registration records, articles, contracts, invoices, bills of lading and inspection certificates.
  • Powers of attorney executed before an Iranian notary office (دفترخانه).
  • Property deeds (سند مالکیت) used in inheritance and asset matters.

Who receives these translations

UAE courts and the Rental Disputes Centre, the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, notary publics, the Department of Economy and Tourism and free-zone authorities, banks and trade finance departments, and universities and equivalency bodies. Tell us the destination before we start — some departments expect a specific arrangement of the translated pages.

What makes Persian legal translation different

  • The calendar. Most Iranian documents are dated in the Solar Hijri calendar. We reproduce the date as issued and give the Gregorian equivalent alongside it, so a receiving officer is never left converting a date themselves — a mis-stated year is enough to have a file returned.
  • The shenasnameh is a booklet, not a certificate. Later pages carry the entries that establish marriage, children and death. Translating only the first page is the single most common reason an Iranian civil file is rejected, and we translate every completed page, including stamped blanks.
  • Institutions are named, not swapped. Offices such as Sabt-e Ahval (civil registration) and daftarkhaneh (notary office) are rendered by function with the original name retained. Substituting an Emirati office would attribute powers the Iranian body does not have.
  • Seals do the work. Iranian official documents are validated by seals and register entries. We translate the seal text and carry the register and serial numbers exactly, because that is what the receiving authority verifies.
  • Name transliteration. A Persian name can be written several defensible ways in Latin script. We follow the passport spelling so the translation, the visa file and the passport agree, and keep the Persian original visible.
  • Mixed Persian and Arabic script. Iranian legal documents frequently include Arabic formulae inside a Persian text. These are distinguished rather than merged, so the Arabic version reads as it was drafted.
Photograph the shenasnameh page by page, including the stamped pages that look blank. Missing pages from this one document account for most of the re-scans we have to request.

Common questions

Persian / Farsi Translation in Dubai — Frequently Asked Questions

What clients ask before sending an Iranian document for certified translation.

Does the whole shenasnameh need translating?
In practice yes. The later pages carry the entries recording marriage, children and death, and those are usually the reason the document is being submitted. A translation of the first page alone establishes identity but not the family facts the authority is looking for.
How do you handle Solar Hijri dates?
We reproduce the date exactly as it appears in the Solar Hijri calendar and give the Gregorian equivalent alongside it. Leaving the conversion to the reader is how years get misread, and a wrong year on a civil document is enough to have a file sent back.
Do you translate Iranian court judgments?
Yes — judgments, pleadings, procedural filings and enforcement papers. We keep the structure of the ruling, the case and register numbers and the names of the chambers intact, because these documents are read by a court and precision in the terminology matters.
Is a certified translation the same as attestation?
No. A certified translation is produced and stamped by a translator accredited with the UAE Ministry of Justice. Attestation is a separate official process that authenticates the original document itself. You may need both, and the order depends on what the receiving authority asks for.
Do you translate Arabic or English into Persian?
Yes, in all directions. Arabic or English into Persian is regularly needed for contracts, judgments and commercial correspondence going to a counterparty, court or authority in Iran.
How long does a Persian document take?
A single clear certificate or power of attorney is usually same working day or next. A full shenasnameh, a court judgment or a commercial file is given a confirmed date once we have seen the page count and the scan quality.
