German Document Translation for UAE Use: Handelsregister, Notarial Deeds and Certificates

German-language documents reach Dubai from three countries with one language and three legal systems. A Handelsregisterauszug from Germany, a company extract from Austria and a Swiss commercial register entry are not interchangeable, and translating them as if they were is how corporate files stall at the licensing counter.

Corporate documents: what UAE authorities actually read

DocumentWhy it is requestedThe trap
HandelsregisterauszugProves the company exists and who may sign for itRepresentation rules (Vertretungsberechtigung) summarised instead of translated
Gesellschaftsvertrag / SatzungIncorporation, branch registrationClause numbering lost, making cross-references unusable
Notarial deed (Notar)Share transfers, powers of attorneyCertification block and seal text left untranslated
Financial statementsLicence renewal, tenders, bankingDecimal comma read as a thousands separator

Corporate forms are not interchangeable

GmbH, AG, KG and GmbH & Co. KG describe different liability and representation structures, and the Austrian and Swiss variants differ again. Flattening any of them into “LLC” removes information a licensing officer or a judge may rely on. We keep the original form and explain it in Arabic rather than substituting an Emirati company type that carries different consequences.

Send the extract with the articles. The Handelsregister extract states who may bind the company; the articles state on what terms. UAE licensing authorities read the two against each other, so translating them as one set keeps names, titles and defined terms identical.

Compound terms carry whole rules

German legal drafting compresses entire provisions into single words. Gesamtprokura means joint signing authority; Einzelvertretungsberechtigung means sole representation. Rendered as one approximate noun, the Arabic version tells the reader nothing about who can actually sign. These are unpacked into accurate Arabic, because the whole point of the extract is the signing rule.

Personal documents

Alongside corporate files we regularly translate Geburtsurkunde, Heiratsurkunde, Sterbeurkunde, Scheidungsurteil, Führungszeugnis and academic records — Abiturzeugnis, Diplom, and Bachelor and Master certificates for equivalency. Umlauts are the recurring detail: names containing ä, ö, ü or ß appear as ae, oe, ue and ss on passports, and the translation follows the passport while showing the German original.

Apostille, attestation and translation

German, Austrian and Swiss civil and notarial documents frequently arrive apostilled. The apostille authenticates the original; it does not replace the certified Arabic translation, and it is translated with the document because it carries data the receiving officer verifies. A translation certified by a sworn translator in Germany is certified under German rules and does not substitute for certification by a translator accredited with the UAE Ministry of Justice.

Accreditation of legal translators is administered by the UAE Ministry of Justice. Confirm document-specific requirements with the receiving authority.

German document translation for the UAE — frequently asked questions

What companies and individuals ask before sending German documents.

Is a certified translation from Germany accepted in Dubai?
Not on its own. A sworn translator in Germany is certified under German rules. UAE authorities require certification by a translator accredited with the UAE Ministry of Justice, so the document is normally translated into Arabic here.
Do you translate GmbH as LLC?
No. We keep the German corporate form and explain it. GmbH, AG and KG describe different liability and representation structures, and flattening them removes information a licensing officer or court may rely on.
Do you handle Austrian and Swiss documents?
Yes. We identify the issuing country and translate its institutions accurately, because the registries, court structures and notarial systems differ despite the shared language.
Which documents should be translated together?
For company matters, the commercial register extract with the articles and the signatory resolution. They are read against one another, so translating them as one set keeps names and defined terms identical.
My surname has an umlaut spelled differently on my passport. Which is used?
The passport spelling, with the German original shown alongside so the translation matches your identity documents while still reflecting the source.
How long does a German corporate pack take?
Usually one to two working days once we have seen the page count. Single certificates are normally same day or next.
